Good design is clear communication
While we greatly appreciate the publicity that the We Inspire grant has been receiving, a few bloopers in the media have amused us.
We know that any PR helps our program get attention, yet we have a strong belief in clear communication. We also created this blog to make our process as honest and transparent as possible.
Here are a few facts clarified:
“We Inspire was a one-time grant…”
We Inspire is actually an annual grant. Believe it not, we’re already planning for next year’s 2011 program. Our goal is to improve the grant each year based on the feedback of the applicants. We’ve already decided to reduce the number of onsite visits to lower the travel costs. We also hope to secure a printing partner to donate their services for the production of stationery and collateral materials.
“Hubbard House wins $75,000 Web services grant”
This grant is not just web services. We are delivering a full-integrated solution that includes everything from brand identity to print collateral to web design to photography to social media consulting. Web is a huge (and important) component, yet it is only a piece of the puzzle. Design is only effective when it is consistent across all mediums.
“$75,000 Cash”
Hubbard House did not win cash. They won us. The We Inspire grant includes creative marketing services, valued up to $75,000.
“…Services from three young Jacksonville professionals…”
This depends on your definition of “young”. Collectively, our team has over 35 years of professional experience.
“…Instead of doing small projects that feel like a “Band-Aid.”
Donating a one-off piece is a wonderful thing — however — it does not address the long-term business challenges of a nonprofit organization. By developing a yearlong partnership, we can work together to create an integrated and effective design solution.

Despite what they say, our very own Tiffany Manning took all of the photography used to promote the Grant. Her work is amazing — take a peek.
